They just sent an email out to their affiliates last week:

"Buy.com now has RSS feeds associated with Price Drop Alerts and 125X125 Promotions, with more to follow next week. Using our RSS feeds, you can easily track changes to our products and pricing as they happen."

The price drop feed is pretty nice and informative. But the 125x125 Promotions is an RSS feed of banner promotions... I loaded it up and I really couldn't believe it. Can't wait to see affiliates implement that one, as if we need more banners cramped on a page.

Maybe they were searching for this: Buy.com RSS 2.0 Product Module Definition Version 1.0. Perhaps?

I read about it not too long ago. Strikes me as just plain odd.

I've requested this feature time and time again from the Buy.com affiliate manager and they don't have the interest or much understanding of how Web Services help them. This is one of a handful of critical elements that let Amazon.com survive the first crash. Buy.com is does not generally innovate, but rather tries to garner business by undercutting the competition. They are always steps behind their counterparts in terms of technology and promotion.
