SecretPrices.com Launch

Submitted by on January 4, 2006 – 1:15 amNo Comment

The beta of Secretprices.com was launched in late December 2005.  Below is a description of the project:

SecretPrices.com is on ongoing project to create a “mashed” price comparison site utilizing data from Shopping.com, Amazon.com, eBay and other web services. The idea behind SecretPrices is not to recreate the price comparison platform, but to build on it. With the mindset of Web 2.0, it makes sense to us to take this approach.  If you think of the effort that has already gone into building the Shopping.com platform, why would we want to compete?  But if we take what they are most efficient at: Gathering price data and matching those prices to products- then we can build on other aspects of the site, like the user interface, coupon integration, product deal integration, etc. It is truly a win for both the merchants and the consumers. The bottomline is that if consumers can find the products and the product information they are looking for faster, easier and more efficiently, then its a win for everyone.

Primary Objective

  • Integrate Shopping.com and Amazon.com web services in a user-friendly manner.

Secondary Objectives

  • Integrate merchant coupons, merchant/mfg rebates and product deals as “just-before-decision” information.  Coupons, rebates and other discount information can often sway the consumer purchase decision or cause an impulse buy.
  • Integrate auction data from eBay (and later Overstock Auctions).
  • Integrate social shopping features.
